Woonona Boardriders was established late in 1974 when some brainstorming was done by Barry (Wootown) Stace and Rob Allen. The boys were looking to put a contest team of 18 surfers together so decided to hold a meeting around a beer. When 34 people turned up Barry didn’t have the heart to turn then around, so the club was formed.

The club had over 100 members in its initial year of competition in 1975.

The club powered under the realm of various presidents but Barry was always in the mix. During the next 3 decades the club won countless titles and had great success at a local state and national level. But in 1996, Barry had done enough and decided to stand down. No one stood up to the plate and the club was in shock.

The club continued to ran spasmodically, and at a small grass roots level until 2003.

In 2003 Paul Charlton, Ben Starr, Josh Skipp were keen to get the club back under way. With plenty of hours of hard work and the club was back on its feet and attracting attention of sponsors. The Club has had growing number since and currently over 100 financial members in the 2008 season. The club has been lucky enough to purchase the equipment to run a modern Boardriders club, and attract back some of the areas surfing talent. THIS BEING THE KEY PART TO ANY SUCCESSFUL CLUB.

In 2008 With Ben Starr and Paul Charlton sharing the president position, the year is looking great from all levels. Surfers of all standards, sex and background are encouraged to join WOONONA BOARDRIDERS INC. As long as they are willing to be part of the team, remember that the club is a NON-PROFIT organization and is run fully by the generosity of its members and sponsors. And will adhere to the conditions of entry.
