Heat length:
NOTE: In the event of unforeseen circumstances (eg. late entries/withdrawals, dangerous conditions), the order of scheduled heats and the number of competitors in each heat may change on the day at the discretion of the Head Judge.
- A “Pointscore” will be a single round of heats only
- eg. 20 entrants compete in 4 heats of 5.
- Placings in each heat gets points allocated as per points allocation defined below
- There is no subsequent round to progress to. Each competitor leaves the event with a result.
- Points accumulate over the 8 events for an eventual "Pointscore Champion" per division
Club Championships
- Event is run with heat progression (ie. heats, semis, finals)
- All 3 events will count to an eventual "Club Champion"
- Divisions are Open Men, Open Women, Junior Boys & Junior Girls
- The draw will be unseeded for the first event, then seeded for the final 2. Pointscore rankings are not relevant
Heat length:
- 20 minutes (unless advised prior to event due to time restrictions)
- 5 minute warning prior to end of heat (next heat may paddle out)
- 5
- A panel of 3 judges score each wave on a scale of one to ten. There is no limit on the number of waves that will be scored, but the two best scoring waves are added together to become a surfer's heat total (out of a possible 20).
- The wave score will be based on the following criteria:
- Commitment and degree of difficulty
- Innovative and progressive manoeuvres
- Combination of major manoeuvres
- Variety of manoeuvres
- Speed, power and flow
- Wave scores will be based on the following scale:
- Poor: 0.0 - 1.9
- Fair: 2.0 - 3.9
- Average: 4.0 - 5.9
- Good: 6.0 - 7.9
- Excellent: 8.0 - 10.0
- The surfer with priority has the unconditional right of way to catch any wave they choose. Other surfers in the heat can paddle for, and catch, the same wave, but only if they do not hinder the scoring potential of a surfer with priority. A surfer loses priority once they catch a wave and/or a surfer paddles for but misses a wave. If two or more surfers catch a wave, the first surfer to make it to the take-off zone will get priority.
NOTE: In the event of unforeseen circumstances (eg. late entries/withdrawals, dangerous conditions), the order of scheduled heats and the number of competitors in each heat may change on the day at the discretion of the Head Judge.
